Week 23, June 5-11, 2023

Week 23, June 5-11, 2023. Cybersecurity Weekly Updates.

This week in the world of cybersecurity:

Microsoft revealed that the Lace Tempest hackers have been actively exploiting the MOVEit Transfer App, underlining the relentless pursuit of vulnerabilities by malicious entities. In an alarming discovery, e-commerce platforms like Magento, WooCommerce, WordPress, and Shopify have been exploited in a large-scale web skimmer attack, jeopardizing the security of online transactions. Shifting our focus to South America, Brazilian cybercriminals are using innovative tactics like LOLBaS and CMD scripts to nefariously drain bank accounts, a worrying trend for financial institutions. Mobile users must remain cautious as well, given the discovery of over 60K adware apps that masquerade as cracked versions of popular applications to target Android devices. Finally, the spotlight is on Microsoft again, this time for a less commendable reason: a whopping $20 million penalty for illicitly collecting data from children on Xbox.
