This week in the world of cybersecurity:

At the forefront, TikTok found itself in a turmoil, fervently denying claims of a massive data breach, said to compromise the information of over 2 billion users. The Genshin Impact Anti-Cheat system became an unlikely tool for ransomware attackers, using it to disarm antivirus systems on victims’ devices. In a similar vein, the EvilProxy Phishing Service emerged, providing malicious actors a means to circumvent 2-factor security, jeopardizing user accounts across various platforms. Turning their attention to specific communities, a new Android spyware campaign was uncovered, specifically targeting the Uyghur community. In a major takedown, U.S. authorities intervened, confiscating cryptocurrency valued at $30 million, originally stolen by North Korean hackers, marking a significant setback for the cybercriminals involved.
